Jackson Irvine officially ends Hibs return chances as he joins St Pauli

Australian midfielder Jackson Irvine has joined St Pauli to officially end any chance of him staying at Hibs.

The Easter Road club had hoped to persuade him to stay but it appeared that all chances were gone when Jack Ross agreed a deal with Jake Doyle-Hayes last week.

And now Irvine has completely ended those chances after he agreed a deal to join German outfit St Pauli on a free transfer.

He'll head to the Bundesliga 2 club with Irvine admitting they are the perfect club for him because of their values and the way they play football.

He said: “I’m delighted to be here. The club and its values are a perfect fit for me. The way St. Pauli play football suits me, too.

“I can’t wait to meet my teammates now and get started.”

St Pauli boss Timo Shultz was thrilled to get him involved in the club and believes he’ll suit them perfectly.

He said: "Jackson gives us more flexibility in our midfield diamond because he can play both an attacking and a defensive role. He also brings a certain physicality and rugged style of play that will add stability."

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann said: “Jackson is at his prime age for a footballer and is an absolute mentality player who works extremely hard and comes with international experience. He's at home in a variety of midfield positions."
