Jackson Irvine Hibs transfer latest as Australian midfielder delivers 'no mad rush' contract verdict

Australia cap Jackson Irvine has confirmed he has started talks over extending his stay at Hibs.

The midfielder joined in January and was widely expected to move on in the summer. however he has opened the door stay at Easter Road next season.

While admitting the focus is on third spot in the Premiership, Irvine told the told the hibs pod that there are contract discussions on-going behind the scenes.

The 28-year-old said: "I’ve started having conversations with the club about moving forward, but at the moment we’re not in a mad rush.

"We’re really comfortable with the way things have been going and progressing with myself at the club.

"We’re happy to let it play out and see how the next few weeks go and see how the season goes.

"Sealing third place is obviously the really short-term priority. We’ve got a good cushion going into the split but anything can happen going into these last five games.

"We need to go into these first couple with a good attitude, come out firing and hopefully get that third-place sealed up as quick as possible.

Boss Jack Ross confirmed earlier this week that Hibs were hopeful of agreeing a new deal with the midfielder.

He told the Edinburgh Evening News: “Jackson has given us encouragement and I have handed it over to Graeme [Mathie], who will try to put something attractive in front of him and then we will see where we are."
