Jackson Irvine coy on Hibs future as he urges Easter Road side to seize on strong European position

Jackson Irvine reminded his Hibernian teammates their European destiny remains firmly within their grasp as the Easter Road side bid to extend their lead over Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

Jack Ross’ men are currently three points ahead of their rivals for the division’s European spots, but have a game in hand this weekend at Irvine’s former club Ross County.

Victory in Dingwall would widen the gap to six points - but only if the men in green and white can overcome their slide in form following defeats to Motherwell and St Johnstone in their last two games.

The Australian international is out of contract at the end of the campaign and gave little indication of whether any talks over an extension to his deal was on the table

Hibs have already confirmed they will lose Ofir Marciano in the summer on the expiry of his agreement, though Irvine admitted he enjoying “every minute” after being pulled out of footballing purgatory in January to end a ten-month hiatus from the game.

"We are in a good strong position to finish third and that has got to be the target now for the end of the season," he said.

"These final two games could really push us in to a really strong position going into the split, which is always key

"Especially after a couple of poor results in the last couple of games, we have to remember that's what is at stake and it is still ultimately in our hands.

"We have put ourselves in this position and the reason we are there is that we are a good team and we have the players that can pull off something special this season and there is plenty of time to do it.

"It has been great so far. I have enjoyed every minute of it after having such a long time out of the game. Everyone at the club has been amazing with me since the start."
