Jackson Hastings leaves Sydney ahead of Wigan Warriors return

Jackson Hastings will be back in the country this week after getting on a flight from Australia.

The Wigan Warriors halfback has remained down under throughout the off-season which has resulted in speculation over his future.

That escalated further when he did an interview with the Daily Telegraph reiterating his desire to return to the NRL.

However, Hastings shared a string of emotional pictures saying goodbye to his family at Sydney airport as he prepared to return ahead of the season.

Hastings, who won the Man Of Steel in 2019, signed a new one-year deal with the Warriors last year after steering them to the Grand Final. It was his second successive appearance in the event having taken Salford to Old Trafford the year before.

Rumours surrounding his future are never far away from the headlines, with the 25-year-old off-contract once again at the end of the season.

He made 21 appearances for the Warriors last season, scoring eight tries, as they won the League Leaders' Shield.

Wigan head coach Adrian Lam has given the halfback and team-mate Bevan French as much time as possible with their families ahead of the season, which starts in just over a fortnight.

The Warriors will take on newly-promoted Leigh Centurions in the opening game of the season and it remains to be seen whether he will be deemed fit enough to feature in the first game.
