JETS defender Lachlan Jackson won't feature in Newcastle's last two games of the A-League season after securing a deal to play overseas.
The club released a statement on Thursday saying Jackson's departure was effective immediately but they did not reveal where he was heading.
The Newcastle Herald understands off-contract Jackson will link with a Korean outfit.
"It's a good opportunity for me to take for my career," Jackson told Jets media.
"It's something that I've been looking to do for quite a while and I look forward to giving it a crack.
"I want to say a thanks to the supporters for welcoming me to the club six years ago and sticking by us through thick and thin.
"I really feel like Newcastle is a second home to me. I really enjoyed my experience here and I'll cherish it."
Jackson had 87 appearances for the Jets since joining from Brisbane in 2016. He made his A-League debut for the Roar in 2014. He twice represented Australia under 23s.
He underwent a knee reconstruction after damaging his ACL last year before returning for two of the opening three rounds this season.
However, the 26-year-old rolled his ankle at training in January and ended up back in the casualty ward. He has taken the field 11 times since returning on March 21.
The Jets host Perth at McDonald Jones Stadium this weekend after defeating the Mariners 2-0 on the Central Coast on Tuesday.
Newcastle also have a fixture to catch up with minor premiers Melbourne City after it was postponed last week because of Victoria's latest coronavirus lockdown.
