Jackson comes up clutch to carry Pistons past Mavs, 95-85

DALLAS _ It looked as if the Detroit Pistons were headed to yet another bad loss against an inferior team.

But a 25-5 run and a little vintage Reggie Jackson pulled the Pistons from the precipice.

Jackson scored 20 points and handed out six assists as the Pistons (14-13) overcame a season-high 19 turnovers in a 95-85 victory over the Dallas Mavericks (6-19) at American Airlines center.

The Pistons lost at home to the lowly Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday and trailed a Mavericks team missing regulars Dirk Nowitzki, Andrew Bogut and J.J. Barea by 12 points late in third quarter.

But an 8-0 run to end the quarter and Jackson scoring nine points in the fourth quarter to allowed the Pistons to pull away.

Andre Drummond only scored three points in 26 minutes, but pulled down 17 rebounds. Jon Leuer scored 19 points on 8-for-9 shooting.

Harrison Barnes led the Mavericks with 19 points. Wesley Matthews (averaging 16.5 points) was held to four points on 2-for-10 shooting by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who missed Sunday's game with a knee contusion.

The Pistons' offensive start was reminiscent of Sunday's slumber against the 76ers.

After jumping to a 4-0 lead, the Pistons were scoreless for roughly seven minutes before the drought was ended on Leuer's baseline jumper.

But the Mavs led, 20-17, after the first quarter mainly because of eight Pistons turnovers.

Jackson had possibly his best stretch since his return Dec. 4 from the left knee tendinitis that forced him to miss the first 21 games.

With the Mavs leading, 23-17, Jackson rained a 25-footer to cut the deficit to 23-20.

After a Justin Anderson triple, Jackson's driving layup cut the deficit to 26-22.

One minute later, Jackson's no-look pass to Leuer for a layup tied the game at 26. But Jackson picked up his third foul at the 5:28 mark and had to leave the floor.

The Pistons took a five-point lead at 40-35 after Ish Smith found Leuer for an alley-oop layup.

But the Pistons committed three of their 13 first-half turnovers in the final 1:28 and the game was tied at 43 going into halftime.
