‘I Shouldn’t Have Said It On The Air’: Kyle Sandilands Addresses Viral Argument With Jackie O

Kyle Sandilands has addressed Jackie ‘O’ Henderson‘s absence from their KIIS FM Breakfast radio show, after a viral on-air spat prompted Jackie to take a “couple of days” away from co-hosting.

ICYMI, Sandilands confirmed this week that Henderson was off-air as she “gather[ed] her thoughts” in the wake of their spat over astrology during an earlier episode.

The heated argument saw Sandilands criticise Henderson after she read through Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s astrology chart in response to news of his arrest.

“Your fixation on this [astrology] has made you almost unworkable,” Sandilands said during the live segment, adding that Henderson is “off with the fairies with this shit”.

Henderson pushed back and told Sandilands she was offended by the comments, but he continued the spray by saying her interest in astrology had affected her work.

“You are not doing the rest of the job, and everyone in this building has mentioned it to me,” Sandilands claimed.

“You don’t know what the fuck is going on all the time, because you’re looking at that phone, playing in the stars, and it’s ridiculous,” he added.

Sandilands then told his co-host that she can’t let astrology “take over her whole life”, and compared her interest in it to that of a “drug addict”.

Henderson has been open about her struggles with addiction in the past, revealing in 2024 that she had entered treatment over a pills and alcohol addiction that began in 2020.

Henderson was heard holding back tears as Sandilands scolded her during the segment, saying at various points that she was “offended” and that his criticisms were “not fair”.

“I totally am offended by you saying something like that,” Henderson said.

“I would never say things like that about you. You sit there like you’re perfect. There’s so many things that you don’t do and I would never bring them up.”

Jackie O Henderson will step away from her KIIS FM breakfast role for ‘several days’, following a fiery on-air clash with co-host Kyle Sandilands. The duo, who have forged a two-decade radio partnership, had a huge blow-up after Kyle took issue with Jackie’s ‘fixation’ with astrology. The pair were discussing the latest developments regarding Prince Andrew when Jackie, 50, proceeded to read out the disgraced royal’s birth chart. The radio queen, 50, was a no-show on Monday’s Kyle & Jackie O Show, with Sandilands, 54, confirming that Jackie would be taking a break from the popular show. fyp radio drama sydney #australia

In an update soon after the on-air clash, Sandilands said he “spoke with” Henderson over the weekend but only via text. He then elaborated on his thoughts on a later episode while Henderson was still off-air, admitting he can be an “asshole” and expressing regret over the comments.

“I obviously upset her and maybe in hindsight I shouldn’t have said it on the air, but we say a lot of things on the air here,” Sandilands said. “It’s never meant to hurt her feelings and obviously it did and I regret hurting her feelings.”

Sandilands said he never intended to “hurt someone [he] cares for” and confirmed Henderson had asked for the week off, which is “within her right to do”.

“All any of us know is that she’s asked for the week off and that’s within her right to do… I’m just leaving this up to management. I don’t know what the plan is here or when it will be rectified or if it will be rectified. I hope it is.

“[Management] asked me yesterday, ‘What do you wanna do about it?’ And I said, ‘Well, the end result for me would be we’re back on air, and everything’s happy, but I want her to be happy and enjoy it, and I also want the same thing’.”

Henderson is expected to return to the KISS FM show on Monday, March 2.

It’s not the first time the radio show’s content has made waves. Last year, the pair’s segments were found to have breached standards set out by the radio watchdog over vulgarity and decency rules, and before that, Sandilands was forced to undergo sensitivity training after offensive on-air comments.

Sandilands and Hendserson have been radio personalities for 25 years, with their KIIS FM show launching in the Melbourne market back in 2024.
