Jack Wilshere 'wants' Rangers move as Valencia switch focus after admitting defeat in transfer bid

Valencia have pulled out of a move to sign Jack Wilshere after fearing he is holding out to join Rangers, according to a report.

The former West Ham midfielder has been without a club since leaving the Hammers in October and Rangers have been heavily linked with a move for him.

Valencia were among a number of clubs interested but Portuguese paper Record say they have turned their attention to Benfica's Julian Weigl.

The La Liga club were hoping to sign Wilshere and had held talks with his representatives, according to the report.

But they feel he is determined to seal a switch to Glasgow with Rangers and have decided to end their interest and focus on alternatives.

Wilshere has spoken of his determination to sign for a club who are fighting for silverware rather than repeat the mistake of signing for a relegation battling club like he did at West Ham.

The former Arsenal wonderkid has been injury free all year but couldn't force his way into David Moyes' side even when they were struggling.

Yesterday, Rangers legend Ally McCoist urged him to join Steven Gerrard's men during a huge season for Rangers.

He told The Scottish Sun: “If he comes to Rangers then great because he’s a fantastic player.

“To be honest, I just want to see Jack playing anywhere regularly to get a smile back on that lad’s face again.

“I hate to say this but, at 28, it looks as if his career could pass him by and Jack will be remembered as one of those guys with amazing talent who couldn’t fulfil his potential.

“I’d hate to see that happen to someone with Jack Wilshere’s exceptional talent.”
