Jack Wilshere transfer update as Rangers-linked star 'favours' MLS move

Rangers-linked Jack Wilshere looks set to continue his career in the USA.

The midfielder has been a free agent since his West Ham contract was torn up earlier in October.

Reports have credited Steven Gerrard with an interest in the 28-year-old England international.

But our colleagues at The Mirror state he's considering a Transatlantic switch to the MLS.

Wilshere's promising career has been heavily hampered by injuries following his breakthrough at Arsenal aged just 16.

But, upon his departure from the Hammers, he insisted he's been full fit and ready to play for months.

Speculation mounted over a move to Ibrox as the transfer window drew to a conclusion.

Barcelona legend Xavi even backed Wilshere to take Scottish football by storm.

He told Record Sport : “I have had a lot of respect for Jack, for many years.

“He played an incredible game against Barcelona (in 2011) and after that I predicted he would go on to be one of the best midfield players in the world and the future of English football. That is a prediction that I am sure would have come true if it were not for some horrible injuries.

Rangers could be a very good fit for him. The pace in Scotland is not as fast as England and it would give him more time on the ball. That is where he excels, his vision and passing is incredible.

“They are a big club with a young coach who knows what it takes to win at the very highest level.

“There is also the chance of him having the chance to play Champions League football again. That is where every player wants to be and at Rangers he will be given the opportunity to fight to play in it.

“Gerrard will be a big fan of his for sure. They share a lot of similar qualities.

“It would be a risk because of his injuries but if Rangers could manage to keep him fit and without injury, he would be the best player in Scotland.”
