Jack Wilshere has apologised for leading a foul-mouthed, anti-Tottenham chant during Arsenal’s FA Cup victory parade.
The midfielder has come under criticism in some quarters after taking to the microphone outside the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, as well as being reminded of his responsibilities by Arsenal. The club were happy to take no further action but the player has nevertheless decided to show contrition. On Monday afternoon he tweeted: “Sharing back2back Cup wins with so many amazing Gooners is a dream come true. Apologies if I upset or offended any of u with my celebrations”.

Arsène Wenger and his assistant Steve Bould spoke to Wilshere shortly after Arsenal’s 4-0 victory over Aston Villa in Saturday’s FA Cup final and the club’s former striker Niall Quinn had called on the 23-year-old to apologise on Monday morning. “You want passion from your players, there is no doubt that, but he has overstepped the mark once more,” said Quinn of a player who has already apologised after being caught smoking.
