Jack Wilshere names the Tottenham star he 'hated playing against' as the best player he's faced

West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere has named former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele as the best player he has faced in the Premier League.

The ex-Arsenal man came up against the Belgian in various north London derbies and his name soon jumped into his mind during an Instagram Story quiz.

Wilshere was asked by a follower: "Who's the best player you have played against in the Premier League?"

The Hammers midfielder responded: ""I always hated playing against Dembele from Tottenham.

"Obviously it was a derby and he was always up for the game and made it difficult and he was strong, you couldn't get the ball off him. His dribbling was unreal."

Dembele left Tottenham in January 2019 to join Chinese Super League side Guangzhou R&F.

Still only 32, the Belgium international was struggling with the pace and physical side of the Premier League in his final 18 months in the country as injuries began to catch up with him.

However, many Tottenham fans will always remember him as a vital cog in Mauricio Pochettino's Spurs side that challenged for the Premier League title during back to back seasons in 2015/16 and 2016/17.

Jose Mourinho will now be hoping that club record signing Tanguy Ndombele can fill that gap left in the centre of the park.
