Jack Wilshere names Arsenal's best player and it's not Bukayo Saka

Jack Wilshere has claimed that Emile Smith Rowe is currently Arsenal's best player.

Smith Rowe broke into the Gunners' starting lineup midway through last season, starting during their 3-1 win over Chelsea on Boxing Day before keeping his place in the starting lineup for the remainder of their games.

The Hale End graduate notched four goals and eight assists across all competitions last term, an impressive feat considering he has just turned 21 years old.

The tricky playmaker has continued his fine run of form so far this term, producing impressive performances even during losses, with Jamie Carragher claiming that he was the best player on the pitch during the Premier League curtain-raiser against Brentford.

He then delivered a masterful display during last week's emphatic win over Tottenham Hotspur, providing a goal and an assist against Nuno Espirito Santo's side, earning plaudits from Wilshere.

The former West Ham and Arsenal maestro has admitted that he is a huge fan of Smith Rowe, claiming that the England Under-21 international is currently the north London club's best player.

"He’s a player I really like, he came into the team last year but made the position his", Wilshere told Sky Sports ahead of the game against Brighton.

"This season even in the bad results he was the one player, the one shining light, he carries the ball so well in that transition from defence to attack he’s crucial in how this team want to play.

"He had a great season last season, but this season the consistency and at such a young age to be Arsenal’s best player, for me either him or Saka, probably him, their best player this season so far is a credit to him."
