Jack Wilshere makes surprise Tottenham admission as he makes Barcelona statement

Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has named ex-Tottenham star Mousa Dembele as his toughest opponent in his career so far.

That is despite the former Gunners midfielder coming up against the likes of Barcelona stars Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta during his Arsenal days.

But Wilshere has said that Dembele gave him more problems when he faced him at Tottenham than the Barcelona stars ever did.

Wilshere, who is now at Championship side Bournemouth, was asked who his toughest opponent so far was as part of an interview for the Cherries' matchday programme for their clash with Watford today.

In response, he said: "Mousa Dembele at Tottenham.

“I played against [Lionel] Messi and [Andres] Iniesta but I used to play against [Mousa] Dembele a lot and I hated it.

“You couldn’t get the ball off him, he was strong, quick, powerful and also really good on the ball.

“His dribbling was a joke and he was difficult to play against.”

The Belgian midfielder spent six-and-a-half years at Spurs after signing for the north London side from Fulham, with Dembele making 250 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions before joining Chinese Super League side Guangzhou City.

Dembele was a popular figure at Spurs, scoring ten goals for Tottenham, but it appears that he was not so popular with his rivals across north London.
