Jack Wilshere makes bold Arsenal Premier League title claim after Pep Guardiola comments

Arsenal are in the very heart of a major rebuild in a bid to become the unbeatable club they once were, and are drawing praise from all angles.

Manager Mikel Arteta spent £150million over the summer to bring a fresh wave of young talent into his squad.

His six signings, all aged 24 and under, have sparked a revival at the Emirates Stadium, with the help of some of the academy products in the team.

The Gunners are currently sitting in the fourth spot in the Premier League and 15 points behind league leaders Manchester City, so their realistic targets for the campaign will be winning a cup competition and finishing in the Champions League placings.

However, ex-Arsenal star Jack Wilshere has revealed that he thinks his former club will win the Premier League in the very near future.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the 29-year-old said: “I think with the right backing and bringing the right players in.

"He [Arteta] definitely has a clear structure and philosophy of the way he sees football and how he wants it to be played.

"Listen, they're not going to win the league this year.

"But in the next two or three years, if they can get into the top four, get a few big signings in, give them time to settle and see how the manager wants them to play.

"I'm going to put it out there - I think they can, yeah."

The remarks of the former England international will provide the Gunners faithful with a boost of confidence given how close Wilshere is to the current squad.

But it may not have come as too great of a surprise considering City boss Pep Guardiola heaped the praise on Arsenal ahead of their match this weekend.

The Spanish boss told Amazon Prime: “There are 54 points to play for. It is not expected to have this distance for eight and nine, but Liverpool play one game less.

“But it is 54 points. In December no one is champion. We are going to lose games. I see in my mind, Arsenal, Chelsea, Southampton coming.

"We have a game in London against Arsenal, maybe one of the top teams right now. The best Arsenal in the last four or five years.

"I cannot say more than congratulations to the team but we must focus."

The Gunners will need to fill one or two pieces of the jigsaw in order to become capable of winning trophies.

The arrivals of Aaron Ramsdale, Benjamin White and Takehiro Tomiyasu has solved a lot of Arteta’s defensive woes and the Gunners midfield has enough talent to dominate big games. However, it is the striker spot that could cause the former Everton midfielder some issues.

Arteta is set to lose Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah at the end of the season when their contracts expire, and once-captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remains in the ‘bad books’ of the club after his recent disciplinary breach.

Young Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli has made the no.9 spot his own in the short-term, but Arteta will certainly be weighing up whether his budget can stretch for a forward in the January transfer window.
