Jack Wilshere injury: West Ham midfielder plays down fears after being substituted in Man City defeat

Jack Wilshere has allayed concerns he suffered another injury on Saturday.

The midfielder was substituted with a dead leg in West Ham’s 5-0 defeat to Manchester City , after receiving some rough treatment from Rodri, who was making his City debut following his summer move from Atletico Madrid.

“He seems to know what the Premier League is about already,” said Wilshere. “I got a dead leg but I am fine. That is part and parcel of playing in the Premier League, you get kicks. I am alright.”

Wilshere is fit again after missing most of last season with an ankle injury. He said: “I feel good physically. I had a good pre-season but you probably need a couple of games in the Premier League to get up to full speed. I am feeling confident about the season.

“We need to forget about the City game as soon as possible. Maybe look back at it on Monday and then get ready for Brighton. I said to the new lads, ‘it probably will not get harder than that’. It can only get better.

“In the first half we stuck to the gameplan quite well and were unlucky to go in 1-0 down. You know you are going to suffer against players like that and you have to defend well and I thought we did that. Once you got 2-0, 3-0 down and you are chasing the game it is difficult because they open you up.”
