Jack Wilshere in honest Rangers admission as he responds to social media transfer poser

Midfielder Jack Wilshere insists Rangers never wanted to sign him after a social media poser about deciding to return to Bournemouth.

The England cap left West Ham in October 2020 and was strongly linked with a switch to Ibrox.

Bookies had Rangers as his most likely next destination and the potential switch was framed as a chance to reboot his career under former England teammate Steven Gerrard.

But a move north of the border never materialised and the 28-year-old signed for former club Bournemouth after a trial period.

However, when asked through an Instagram Q&A why he didn't sign for Rangers to play "European football every season", Wilshere responded: "They didn't want me."

The midfielder has been plagued by injury problems having seemed destined to be a superstar during his time with Arsenal.

However, since his return to the Cherries in January he has struggled for game time at the Championship play-off contenders making just four first-team starts.

The Ibrox midfield has been packed with top performers so far this season including Ryan Jack, Joe Aribo, Steven Davis, Ianis Hagi, Glen Kamara and Scott Arfield.

Wilshere once faced off against Rangers and impressed as a 17-year-old against Walter Smith's side in the Emirates Cup in 2009.
