Jack Wilshere: Former Arsenal star 'closing in' on EFL managerial position

Jack Wilshere is reportedly in line to take over the managerial vacancy at Luton Town.

The Hatters are on the hunt for a new manager after they sacked Matt Bloomfield after nine months at the helm.

Bloomfield, the former Wycombe Wanderers midfielder and manager, took over from Rob Edwards at Kenilworth Road, but could not keep the Bedfordshire outfit in the Championship, as they suffered back-to-back relegations.

Now, they sit 11th in League One, with a 2-0 defeat to Stevenage the final nail in the coffin.

It means that the third-tier side are in the market for a new head coach, and reports claim that former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is in pole position to take the reins.

Wilshere, 33, has begun his coaching career, starting back in north London with the Gunners’ under-18 squad, before moving to become part of Johannes Hoff Thorup’s first-team backroom set-up at Norwich City.

Wilshere then took charge of the Canaries on an interim basis after Thorup was sacked, but he was overlooked for the full-time position, with Liam Manning preferred.

BBC Sport report that Wilshere is the No1 target for Luton, who narrowed their shortlist down to the former England international and current Leyton Orient boss Richie Wellens, but it is believed that Wilshere is close to landing the position.
