Jack Wilshere could resurrect career with last gasp transfer deadline day move

Jack Wilshere is hoping to resurrect his career with a move to Italy, after finding it very difficult to secure a new contract in England.

The 29-year-old has been without a club since leaving Bournemouth at the end of the season.

And despite being in a ‘good place, physically’ Wilshere admitted that offers have dried up during the summer.

“I’ve actually had a good pre-season. I’ve been training with a club just to keep myself fit. I’m in a good place, physically. I’m 29,” he told talkSPORT.

“I’m waiting for the right opportunity to come up, to be honest, mate.

“But, having said that, nothing has come up at the minute and there’s nothing happening.

“I don’t know the answer to that question to be honest, mate.

“I’m just waiting. I don’t really know how long I can wait, I don’t really want to wait as long as I did last time when I left West Ham in the summer, and then I didn’t get a club until January when I went to Bournemouth.

“I don’t really want to wait that long [again], so hopefully, something will happen sooner rather than later.”

And reports now suggest the former Arsenal and West Ham midfielder could join Como, who he has been training with during the past few weeks.

Sky Italia claim that Wilshere cannot be registered by a club due to the fact he’s a non-EU player, but he has been using his contacts to train with Como and is open to a move elsewhere in the country.

He recently told the Athletic about his plans to play abroad, explaining: “I’ve said before that I’m open to going abroad.

“In fact, I probably want to go abroad. I want to try something different. I think it’ll be good for me, for my life, for my family.”

Wilshere joked that he would return to the Gunners in a heartbeat and former Arsenal player Michael Thomas has suggested he is better than the options Mikel Arteta currently has at his disposal.

“Jack was amazing coming through the ranks at Arsenal and could have been one of the world’s best,” Thomas told CaughtOffside.

“The injuries he’s suffered have been enough for a full squad of players and has ultimately hampered his progression to the top of world football.

“It is actually crazy, but for me he is better than some of the central midfielders in our current squad.

“Jack shouldn’t be without a club and I am sure after that interview, clubs that were unaware of his situation will be willing to take a calculated gamble.”
