Jack Wilshere back training with Arsenal as Mikel Arteta given Granit Xhaka decision

Jack Wilshere has been spotted training with Arsenal.

Wilshere left the Gunners in the summer of 2018, ending a 17-year association with the club.

However, the former England international has made a sensational return to the club's London Colney training ground after head coach Mikel Arteta previously claimed Wilshere was welcome to train with his former side.

The 29-year-old, who is currently a free agent, was training with Italian side Calcio Como last month but he was spotted back in north London on Thursday morning.

Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka is currently sidelined with a serious knee injury, sparking rumours of a return for Wilshere, although, he will merely be training with the club and doing his coaching badges in the coming weeks.

The Hale End graduate had left the Emirates Stadium for West Ham United following Unai Emery's appointment as Arsenal boss over three years ago.

However, it didn't quite work out with the Hammers and he eventually departed the east London club in October 2020, with the two parties deciding to mutually terminate his contract.

Eventually, Wilshere spent the second half of last season with Championship side Bournemouth before becoming a free agent in the summer, admitting that his previous injury record is scrutinised by potential suitors.

"I'm probably paying the price more than I did back then", he told the Under The Surface podcast.

"And I can feel that now because I think it's a perception and I’ve had this opinion from a few clubs: 'Great player, but an injury waiting to happen.'

"I haven’t been injured since before lockdown - and that was not a serious injury - I've trained every day.

"When I was at Bournemouth I was available for every single game, so I feel like it's a lazy answer because I can.

"Give me a chance, let me prove myself to you then, show you that I’m fit."
