Jack Whitehall takes aim at Piers Morgan, Rita Ora, Lawrence Fox and more in savage Brit Awards stint

Jack Whitehall used his time at the helm of the BRIT Awards 2021 wisely - by taking digs at musicians, actors, social media stars and TV presenters who have made the news in the last year.

The comedian was back hosting the awards ceremony for a fourth year which aired live on ITV.

The event also marked a return of live music to London's O2 Arena with a 4,000-strong audience bringing the awards to life.

But Jack couldn't help but take a few swipes and make a few jokes as he navigated the delayed ceremony.

"I can’t tell you how grateful we are to be here tonight for the first live event back in the O2 Arena.

"Yes, this venue has been emptier than Piers Morgan’s diary," he said during his opening monologue, taking aim at the controversial presenter who dramatically left his role on Good Morning Britain in March.

"Covid’s had more comebacks than Craig David but this evening we look forward to a brighter future," Jack went on.

"No more puzzles, no more Zoom quizzes, we have got an audience, we have got dancers, we have got pop stars.

"We are back."

Lawrence Fox also didn't go unscathed with Jack quipping: "Welcome back. Now the music industry has had it tough this year, but there have been some good stories.

Jack didn't hold back (ITV)

"The Foo Fighters' incredible charity single, Nathan Evens' heartwarming tale of post man's chart-topper, and Laurence fox's tragic foray into politics, meaning that at least he finally stopped making music."

The host also suggested "Little Mix got littler," ahead of their big award win for Best Group - hinting at their split from fourth member Jesy Nelson in December.

Cheryl Cole's relationships were also called out when Jack spoke to Este Haim about how she hijacked Liam Payne and Cheryl’s interview at the 2018 ceremony.

He said: "I thought it was to Cheryl Cole slash Fernandez-Versini slash I can't remember what she's called right now. I didn't realise that was to me."

Rita Ora's lockdown party also got Jack's attention as he commented: "Tay-Tay, Pink and the whole lot more - a party fit for Rita Ora."

The presenter also took to winding up his mate Olly Murs by savagely singing: "Don't worry Murssy's here for fun, we will not let him sing."
