Jack Whitehall revisits Jordan Henderson joke that Steven Gerrard didn't find funny

Comedian Jack Whitehall has looked back on an old joke he made at Jordan Henderson's expense, after the Liverpool captain lifted the Premier League trophy and was named as the Football Writers' Player of the Year.

Appearing on Sky One's 'A League of Their Own' gameshow, Whitehall poked fun at Henderson as he addressed the former Reds skipper Steven Gerrard.

Implying that Henderson could never be as good a player as Gerrard was, Whitehall discussed the fact that there was a hotel named after him in Indonesia such was his worldwide appeal.

"The Stevie G Hotel," he said. "I tried to book a room there and they were fully booked.

"So I had to stay at one down the road that wasn't nearly as good. It's called the Hotel Jordan Henderson."

Gerrard didn't take kindly to the joke, and stayed non-plussed along with another former Reds captain in Jamie Redknapp and Liverpool fan John Bishop.

In the aftermath of Henderson's recent success, Arsenal fan Whitehall tweeted out a video of the joke on Friday, as well as confirmation that his club are currently down in 10th and that Henderson is now a Premier League winning captain.

"What aged worse the haircut or the joke?" he asked.

"Congratulations @JHenderson and @LFC well deserved. The Hotel Jordan Henderson is 5 star!"

Henderson thanked his teammates in typically magnanimous style when he was named as the Football Writers' Player of the Year on Friday.

"As grateful as I am I don’t feel like I can accept this on my own," he told the FWA.

"I don’t feel like anything I’ve achieved this season or in fact during my whole career has been done on my own. I owe a lot to so many different people – but none more so than my current teammates – who have just been incredible and deserve this every bit as much as I do.

"We’ve only achieved what we’ve achieved because every single member of our squad has been brilliant. And not just in matches. Not just in producing the moments that make the headlines and the back pages but every day in training.

"The players who’ve started the most games for us this season have been as good as they have been because of our culture and our environment at Melwood. No one individual is responsible for that – it’s a collective effort and that’s how I view accepting this honour.

"I accept it on behalf of this whole squad, because without them I’m not in a position to be receiving this honour. These lads have made me a better player – a better leader and a better person."
