Jack Whitehall opens Brit Awards 2020 with Caroline Flack tribute

The Brit Awards 2020 paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Caroline Flack this evening.

Jack Whitehall, who is hosting the ceremony, took to the stage to address the former Love Island presenter' tragic death.

Caroline Flack is understood to have taken her own life on Saturday at her home in London, according to a statement given by her family's lawyer.

In the sweet statement Jack called Caroline a "member of the Brits family and friend".

He said: "She was a kind and vibrant person with an infectious sense of fun. She will be sorely missed."

He added: "I think I speak for everyone here when I say our thoughts are with her friends and family."

The tribute ended with a performance from Lewis Capaldi.

The star, who has won the New Artist of the Year category, played Someone You Loved.

TV viewers at home were moved by the tribute and performance.

"Jack Whitehall’s touching tribute to Caroline Flack followed by Lewis Capaldi’s beautiful performance of ‘Someone you loved’ was just perfect," wrote one social media user.

Another added: "Fantastic tribute followed by emotional Lewis Capaldi performance for the late Caroline Flack."

It comes after Love Island's Iain Stirling paid tribute to the former host on Monday night.
