Jack Whitehall admits concerns for BRIT Awards as he teases show surprises

Jack Whitehall has confessed he had concerns over how 'fun' the BRIT Awards 2021 were going to be with producers attempting to pull off the notoriously raucous music bash amid the Covid pandemic.

After hosting the ceremony three times previously, the funnyman said he feared the team might not be able to recreate the same magic as the nation emerges from lockdown.

ITV will broadcast the prestigious 'do from London's 02 Arena, where a 4,000 strong crowd of invited key workers will be enjoying the proceedings live.

Hours before the launch, Jack took time out of rehearsals to speak to Greg James on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast show on Tuesday morning.

"It will be the UK's first proper party," said Greg. "Now you do throw a good party but even for you this is big pressure," he told the comic.

"It is big pressure but I have to say they've done an incredible job," replied Jack.

"I must say the last two days in rehearsals I've been getting my head around how it's all going to work.

Jack admitted he's spent days wondering, 'Is this going to be fun? How is this going to work? Is it not going to be really weird?'

"But they've done an amazing job to try and make it still feel like a normal Brits," he added.

"We've got this audience made up of key workers who are all going to be there at the 02 living their best lives.

"And then the following day probably end up on one of Chris Whitty's graphs. because all of this data is being fed back to the government.

"This is also an experiment," he revealed.

Coldplay, The Weeknd and Dua Lipa will be among those performing at the awards tonight.

Jack also teased that there are some 'amazing surprises'.

He revealed he's meeting up with Nathan Evans, who gained fame last year after posting videos of himself singing sea shanties on TikTok.

"I'm having a little rehearsal with him. I wonder what we could be doing together?" asked Jack.

"I was going to open the show with a sea shanty but then Ant and Dec beat me to it. So I was really gutted but I wouldn't drop it. There has to be a sea shanty moments at the BRITS 2021.

"When you look at by BRIT Awards tenure this will be very much be the lockdown year where Jack's gone slightly mad."

Greg agreed it could be the 'weirdest tv show ever.'

"I don't want to let it out the bag... but there was a call on Friday night to the producer of the BRITS and was simply me asking can you get me Four Lads in Jeans from the meme?"

"And!?" Greg demanded to know.

"I can't give anymore away. Tune in to see if she could deal with that request."
