Jack White's ode to Detroit

He may prefer to dress like a pearly king now, but it's Motor City all the way for the White Stripes man
Jack White, he of the White Stripes fame, has penned a poem for his beloved hometown of Detroit. Rumours that the city's premier rock star wanted to distance himself from his roots appear to be unfounded if this gush-fest is anything to go by, despite White admitting in different interviews to finding the city's "scene" stifling and "super-negative".

"The following poem is the Detroit from my mind. The Detroit that is in my heart," the musician told the Detroit Free Press. "The home that encapsulates and envelops those who are truly blessed with the experience of living within its boundaries."

We wonder if White's warm words might inspire other musicians to follow suit. There could be Lou Reed and his love for Brooklyn, Morrissey on Manchester or Bjork's babblings about Reykjavik. Or perhaps you could offer your own "I wandered lonely as a cloud ... in Sidcup"-type odes below. Before you do, here's Courageous Dream's Concern by Jack White (edited down a bit for the blog, it's really rather long you know)

Courageous Dream's Concern, by Jack White

I have driven slow, three miles an hour or so, through Highland Park, Heidelberg, and the Cass Corridor.

I've hopped on the Michigan, and transferred to the Woodward, and heard the good word blaring from an a.m. radio. I love the worn-through tracks of trolley trains breaking through their concrete vaults, As I ride the Fort Street or the Baker, just making my way home.

I sneak through an iron gate, and fish rock bass out of the strait, watching the mail boat with its tugboat gait, hauling words I'll never know.
