Jack Walker is under no illusion that he will start the season as Leeds Rhinos' second-choice fullback.
The 22-year-old is back in full training following two years of horrid injury struggles, with consecutive foot injuries keeping him out for the best part of two years.
During his absence, a new fullback has emerged, and emphatically, at Headingley.
Richie Myler headed into the 2019 season surplus to requirements but Walker's injury presented him an opportunity to play at fullback and has enjoyed a super career renaissance in the position, winning a Lance Todd trophy and playing a key role in Leeds' success.
Walker has retained the number one jersey despite that, but he admits that he will have work to do to dislodge Myler from his position.
"Personally, even though I've been given the one shirt I feel like Richie is in front of me," Walker said.
"I have work to do, and rightly so. He's played unbelievable, arguably up there as the best fullback in the comp last year.
"I've got some work to do, but I've had competition before and I'll never shy away from it and we'll see how Rich likes it. It is what it is."
Walker is likely to get his first opportunity to stake his claim in the round one clash against Warrington next week. He is expected to feature in the pre-season clash against Featherstone Rovers.
"It's weird because it will feel like a debut," Walker admitted.
"I'm going to be nervous, I never got nervous for games. I got nervous for my debut but never again, not even the Grand Final, so that's going to feel different.
"But I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm excited, I'm itching to play again and get on that field."
