Jack Tweed says Jade Goody would be so 'proud' of son Bobby joining EastEnders

Jack Tweed has opened up on how "proud" Jade Goody would have been of her two children Bobby and Freddie.

The late TV star passed away in 2009 after a much-publicised and short battle with cervical cancer when she was aged just 27.

Jade worked hard in her final days to ensure a legacy was left for her beloved sons and married Jack just one month before her death.

Jade shared Bobby, now 19, and Freddie, now 17, with TV presenter Jeff Brazier but the boys are still close to their stepdad Jack.

As Bobby gears up to make his screen debut on EastEnders next week, Jack said his mum would have been chuffed to bits with the news her child was starring in the BBC soap.

And Jack says he is "really pleased" for the teen, who fulfils a lifelong acting dream with the gig and who is also continuing to carry out some more modelling work.

"He’s in EastEnders! He’s doing his modelling. Jade would be really proud," he told the Metro ahead of the Jade Goody Memory Walk Family Day held on September 25.

Speaking of a life in the spotlight, Jack added: "If you met Bobby, he’s sort of made for that life – he’s got so much confidence, he’s like his mum in a lot of ways. I’m not worried about it."

The 35-year-old says both Bobby and Freddie have been hands on at several fundraising campaigns for their late mum, including last month’s charity ball which raised more than £30,000 for the Trust for Complementary Cancer Rehabilitation.

Jack revealed he still talks to the boys regularly and recently took Bobby out for dinner.

He added: "It is good to stay in touch, they’re doing really well for themselves," he said.

He still can’t get over how much Bobby looks "exactly like his mum" and says Bobby still asks lots of questions about Jade – adding "grief doesn’t go away".

Jack says you really "don’t get over it" and that he is learning to live with it, admitting that his charity efforts for his late wife has really helped him.

Bobby’s new job as Freddie Slater on EastEnders will mark the teen’s first acting role.. He plays the son of Little Mo and the character was last seen on our screens way back in May 2006.

On joining, Bobby said: "I'm really excited to be joining the cast of EastEnders - so far it's been perfect. Everybody has been so beautiful to me and made settling in easier than I could've hoped.

"Stepping into the acting world has always been a vision of mine and doing that with EastEnders as a Slater is a blessing, I'm very grateful. Loving every minute of Freddie so far and can't wait to see what’s in store for him in Walford."

Bosses have teased that the character has a heart of gold but can't help getting himself into mischief, bringing "a bundle of energy and a truckload of trouble".

Chris Clenshaw, show executive producer, said: "Freddie Slater is a chaotic 18-year-old with a sensitive soul. A modern-day lad who's in touch with his spiritual side. He's philosophical, accepting, but full of mischief and makes mistakes.

"Bobby is an amazing young addition to the EastEnders cast who brings heart and humility to the role of Freddie Slater and I can’t wait for audiences to get to know him."
