Jack Straw is being blocked from receiving a knighthood and seat in the House of Lords by the Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, according to reports.
The former Labour cabinet minister – who served for the duration of both Tony Blair and Gordon Brown’s administrations – is understood to have been turned down for the honour under the current party leader, Jeremy Corbyn.
The Labour grandee was in line for a seat in the House of Lords during the final days of Ed Miliband’s tenure as party leader. However, following an undercover sting by reporters, he suspended himself from the party membership last February.
One senior Labour source told the Guardian: “The chances of Jeremy awarding him with either a knighthood or a peerage are close to zero…. actually, they are zero.”
The Independent has contacted Mr Straw and Mr Corbyn's spokesman for a comment.
