Jack Ross vents Hibs referee frustration as boss issues Scottish Cup rallying cry after St Johnstone defeat

Jack Ross insists Hibs will turn full focus on their Scottish Cup horizon after failing to hit the heights in defeat to St Johnstone.

The Easter Road boss believes next weekend's semi-final against Dundee United is now the priority as they maintained a three point third place Premiership advantage over Aberdeen despite a below par display which saw a Ryan Porteous error allow Saints to score the decisive goal.

He said: "We didn't play well. We didn't do enough to win, but I don't necessarily think we deserved to lose.

"I don't think St Johnstone did much more than us, there wasn't a lot created and it wasn't a good game to watch.

"But we came out on the wrong side because of the defensive laps, otherwise it would probably have been 0-0.

"It is just split-second decision making that people do all over the pitch.

"When you do that closer to your own goal it sometimes has greater consequences.

"It was the wrong decision from Ryan to try to play a pass and I actually thought at first it was a bad clearance.

"It's not, he's tried to pick a pass, it was the wrong decision and we have been punished.

"It's a good week ahead of us, an exciting week regardless of today. We dipped below the standards that we've been setting recently and it was a sharp reminder to the players that when you do that against Premiership opponents then the game becomes much more challenging.

"We'll be okay, we've shown plenty of times this season that we'll respond in the right manner."

Jack was also yellow carded in the last minute but he insists it reserves the right to allow his emotions to get carried away.

"I didn't swear, didn't raise my voice, don't think I was aggressive but I'll accept it and move on. I don't really care about it to be honest. I know other managers get frustrated with it as well.

"People forget it's an emotional game football and sometimes there needs to be a collective reminder of that. Sometimes officials like to talk to you and then choose their moments not to talk to you. I find that frustrating."
