Jack Ross 'to hold Hearts and Hibs talks' as Edinburgh rivals set for boss battle

Hearts and Hibs will reportedly hold talks with Jack Ross over their managerial vacancies.

The former St Mirren boss was sacked by Sunderland in October but his stock remains high north of the border.

The capital rivals parted company with Craig Levein and Paul Heckingbottom following miserable starts to the season.

And now the Daily Mail report Ross will open dialogue with both clubs in the next week having emerged as a leading candidate.

Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson has also been tipped for the Hearts hotseat.

Hibs majority shareholder Ron Gordon revealed on Thursday's he's entrusting the appointment of Heckingbottom's replacement to chief-executive Leeann Dempster and new sporting director Graeme Mathie.

The businessman laughed off "Invisible Man" jibes over the low profile he's kept since taking over in July as he backed Dempster and Mathie to deliver the right man.

"I would start just by saying it's always good when the Invisible Man makes an appearance," he joked to Hibs TV. "It's good to be here, although it's been a difficult week.

"I would echo what I think is the feeling around that club that both Paul and Robbie (Stockdale) made a lot of contributions and they worked very hard to get us where we want to be.

"But sometimes these things happen in football so it's been a turbulent time but I think the club is going to sail through that, as it has in the past and will continue to do in the future.

"We have a very strong leadership in Leeann and Graeme. My role is to support and let them do what they do best.

"Ultimately, we need to look at what the vision for the club is - they're a part of that - in terms of the football standards and goals.

"Ultimately, they're in the lead and run that show, my number one goal is to support them."
