Jack Ross swerves Rangers referee blast but Hibs boss needs triple take to understand 'defining' Ryan Porteous red card

Jack Ross admitted he didn’t even think Ryan Porteous had committed a foul on first viewing of his red card lunge.

But the Hibs boss confessed the rash stopper had given Nick Walsh a decision to make after watching it back.

However, Ross was scratching his head at how the referee could have known it was a sending off offence from the view he had.

Ross knows the incident was the turning point in the game as his side were left with a man disadvantage for an hour on the champions own patch.

However, they did have a lead at that point thanks to Kevin Nisbet’s early header but they couldn’t hold on as substitute Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos netted for Gers.

Ross said on the game’s big talking point: “As it happened I didn’t even think it was a foul but that was from my view.

“I then watched it again and from the first couple of angles I had the same opinion. But from the angle from behind the goal it doesn’t look great.

“But what I don’t quite understand is the match official's view wasn’t from behind the goals but Ryan gave him a decision to make.

“I don’t necessarily agree with the decision but I can understand why it was given.”

Ross was pleased with how his side started but admitted he was unhappy at the manner of the goals they conceded.

He said: “We were really good in the first half hour and deserved to be ahead and we were in a good place in the game.

“We came here with the belief we could win the game and we gave a performance in the first half hour which showed that.

“The sending off is the defining moment in the game. Not necessarily because you can’t win it from there but it’s tough 60 minutes on that pitch against a good team is difficult.

“I’m angry at the manner of the goals we conceded and I told the players that because we are a good team and are very close to being a very good team and that’s the last jump we need to take if you like to continue this progress.”
