Jack Ross slams refereeing inconsistency as Hibs boss laments 'sore week'

Disappointed Jack Ross has challenged his Hibs side to be more resolute in the face of adversity.

The Easter Road side were 1-0 up at Aberdeen but fell apart after Steven Whittaker ’s second
yellow card.

Ross has now witnessed back-to-back defeats to Hearts and the Dons.

He was pleased with his side’s first-half display but knows they need to dig deeper if things go wrong.

Ross said: “The red card is pivotal but you can still win with 10 men.

“And we were ahead in the game, which is not a bad starting point. It’s not like we had 10 men and were chasing the game.

“So we need to be better with our response to adversity, if you like.

“We’re a good team and we showed that for the first hour of the game, our response to Tuesday night was excellent. But that period immediately after the sending-off is the one that costs us the game. The goals were pretty soft.

“So it’s mixed emotions. I was pleased with the first hour and the character they showed to respond from Tuesday. But we weren’t resolute enough after the sending off.”

Ross didn’t have an issue with Whittaker’s dismissal but complained about inconsistencies.

He said: “I’m not arguing with the ones given to Steven – but I might have a case to argue with some of the ones not given over the course of the game.

“There is inconsistency over why yellow cards are awarded that I can’t get my head around.

“It’s been a sore week for us, we haven’t had many weeks like that recently with successive defeats.

“We have an opportunity to have a clear week and next Saturday we’ll be ready to go again.”
