Jack Ross shares Hibs mentality plans as 'proud' boss insists team is on the up

Frustrated Jack Ross admits he is proud of his Hibs players - but insists they will never be pleased while losing games.

The Hibs manager believes there's a developing mentality at the club which means they will never go away to Glasgow's big two and be happy with the result unless they win.

And he reckons that's been proven in the majority of their games this season with the Hibees sitting comfortably in a European position after a good season.

Yesterday's defeat was their first since November 6 and they were on their best away run since 1902/03, when they won the league.

And Ross insists there's evidence they are growing as a team and will eventually be able to match Rangers and Celtic.

He said: “We’re trying to grow a mentality at the club that we’re never satisfied losing games and that’s evident in our record this season.

“It was a disappointed changing room because we haven’t had that feeling often but it’s a day to accentuate the positives within my team’s performance.

“They were excellent and that’s probably as hard a game as Rangers have had in the league and to push them as hard as we did is testament to how far we’ve come.

“We want to keep going and make sure when we come in the future we take something from the match. There was a risk-reward element to the way we set up.

“We knew we would give up opportunities against a good team, who move the ball so well, but we tried to keep two strikers high up the park.

“We created good opportunities, maybe didn’t work the goalkeeper enough, but we had spells when we were good. We take no pleasure in losing the game but we take pride in aspects of the performance.

“If we take that forward into our remaining matches, we’ll finish in a good place.”
