Jack Ross sets out Hibs silverware target as he makes 'next step' pledge ahead of Betfred Cup semi-final

Jack Ross says his sights are set firmly on winning silverware after Hibs battled through to a third successive semi-final.

The Easter Road side fought back to beat Ross’ old club Alloa in the Betfred Cup despite being far from their best.

An equaliser from Christian Doidge and an agonising Nicky Jamieson own goal eight minutes from time edged Hibs through.

And afterwards Ross said: “It’s about winning a cup and I keep talking about coming to the club to manage it and make sure we do that.

“The club has had three consecutive semi-finals, which is good going, but it’s about taking that next step now.

“We have to keep being relentless in our pursuit of doing that.

“To be there again is a good achievement for the team but it’s about making that next step and getting to a final.”

Hibs were toiling with an hour gone but the introduction of Stevie Mallan and Kyle Magennis sparked them to life.

And Ross said: “That’s what you hope for when you make substitutions and I felt both of them brought energy and a tempo to us.

“At half time I just reminded them to do what they’re good at because they’d got a little bit spooked after losing the goal.

“When Stevie and Kyle came on we got back to what we were doing to start with and after that I always felt it would come for us.

“That’s 24 competitive matches with just four losses, which is a great record and the group deserve great credit for that.”

Gutted Alloa boss Peter Grant admitted: “It was a missed opportunity and that is not being disrespectful to Hibs.

“The only disappointment tonight was our final ball at times.

“It says a lot that we are disappointed and not just content with the performance.”
