Jack Ross says Sunderland are working on 'one or two' transfer deals

Jack Ross says he is exploring a couple of possibilities in the transfer market - but says he is still reliant on moving players through the Wearside exit door before he can add to his squad.

The Black Cats boss says he and head of recruitment Tony Coton are working on one or two deals as he looks to add to the three new faces he has already brought to the club this summer.

However Ross made it clear just a couple of days ago that he is still operating in a ‘one-out, one-in’ situation.

“It’s exactly the same as before. I am working on one or two things with Tony [Coton] at the moment, subject to me being able to juggle a few things around,” said Ross, following Sunderland’s 1-0 friendly defeat against Belenenses in Portugal.

“I’ve been honest and frank about the situation, and it is my job as the manager to get the best out of what I have got.

“At the moment I am really pleased with the players and what they did tonight.”

Sunderland may also utilise the loan market, although Ross has frequently said that he will only bring in loan signings if he feels they are the right fit.

He said: “Loans would be an option and that is something we are exploring, but it will depend how that fits with the squad and what contribution they can make.

“If we can bring in one or two who can improve us then we will, because the three who have come in so far have strengthened us as a squad.”
