Jack Ross satisfied with Hibs derby draw as boss hails 'excellent' Matt Macey for keeping Hearts at bay

Hibs boss Jack Ross reluctantly admitted he is "satisfied" with a point at Tynecastle.

And he was full of praise for keeper Matt Macey who came up with a string of key saves to keep rivals Hearts off the scoresheet.

It was a tempestuous Edinburgh derby in Gorgie but it finished goalless thanks to heroic performances from both keepers.

Craig Gordon was kept busy in the Hearts goal but Hibs stopper Macey matched his opposing number and then some.

He caught the eye with magnificent stops from Gary Mackay-Steven and Josh Ginnelly and earned Hibs a point from a derby that could easily have swung either way.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Ross admitted it's unusual to feel "satisfied" with just a point from a clash with Hearts.

But he was content to settle for a share of the spoils on this occasion.

He said: “We never want to be satisfied by coming to Tynecastle and taking a point but it was a good game.

“Both goalkeepers were excellent and produced real high quality saves and the game ebbed and flowed.

“We had periods where we were really good and periods where we had to dig in and be resilient against a really good team.

On Macey in particular, Ross added: “Matt Macey has been really good since he came to the club and this is the first chance to establish himself as number one and he’s got big gloves to fill in Ofir Marciano.

“We haven’t been out of the top four for 43 league games in a row and that’s an indication how we’ve grown as a squad."
