Jack Ross reveals he has yet to meet Sunderland's prospective new owners

Sunderland’s prospective new owners were at the Stadium of Light to see the Black Cats beat AFC Wimbledon - but manager Jack Ross says he has yet to meet the American businessmen.

Owner Stewart Donald is close to agreeing to sell a controlling stake to John Phelan, Glenn Fuhrman, and Robert Platek, the principal partners behind MSD Partners, with US multi-billionaire Michael Dell involved as a passive, minority investor.

Phelan, Fuhrman, and Platek were on Wearside today to see the Black Cats triumph 3-1 but Ross said there are no plans as yet for him to meet the men who could soon become his bosses.

“No,” he said when asked if he had met them. “My focus and attention was very much on preparing the team for today and as soon as I leave here it is all about preparing the team for Wednesday, and with an eye on next Saturday as well.

“So I have no idea [what is happening].”

Sunderland have been at the centre of takeover talk all summer, with Mark Campbell close to taking over at one stage.

Ross did meet Campbell, but in the end that takeover fell through and the businessman took charge at Scottish League One club Falkirk instead.

Ross said of the takeover talk: “It’s not a distraction for me. It’s never quiet here, is it?

“I don’t think half a day goes by where I don’t have to deal with something.

“There was a lot going on in the summer, too.

“But it would be very weak of me if I said it affected me doing my job.”
