Jack Ross makes fan plea as Hibs boss fears football chiefs have 'rolled over' in attendance fight

Jack Ross admits he is baffled by the lack of urgency being shown in Scotland to get fans back inside our grounds.

The Hibs boss is preparing his team for another massive Scottish Cup weekend at ghost-like Hampden – less than a week after almost 1000 snooker followers were allowed to watch the world final with no social distancing, left.

Ross believes our game’s authorities have “rolled over” and accepted that there will be no fans until next season, even though Hampden will have 12,500 inside it next month for four European Championship matches.

As he geared up for Saturday’s semi-final showdown with Dundee United, the Hibs manager said: “I find it a little surprising we seem to have taken our foot off the accelerator a little bit or stopped lobbying for supporters in stadiums.

“I know it’s not just as simple as people being in stadiums, I know people will point to the commute and travel.

“But equally when you open shopping centres, people will travel to those by different ways. I don’t really understand why we’re not edging close to it or trying to do it.

“And I do think we should be doing more to address that further, particularly when you look at a snooker final being played in front of nigh on 1000 people indoors.

"I struggle with that. I don’t quite get the logic.

“It’s huge in people’s lives and that’s what has got lost in all of this, we don’t just want football fans in stadiums to pay bills. We want them in stadiums because it is a massive part of people’s lives.”
