Jack Ross lights Hibs fire for the season as he challenges squad to return to Europe and right Rijeka wrongs

Hibs manager Jack Ross insists he's desperate to take Hibs back to Europe for another crack at group stage qualification.

But the hard work to sealing a UEFA spot starts now with the Scottish Cup or a top four finish once again the aim.

Hibs bowed out of the Europa Conference League after a 4-1 defeat at Rijeka on Thursday night.

They held the Croatians at 1-1 but Darren McGregor's red card left them in the lurch and before long the tie was dead and buried.

Ross will feel it was a big chance wasted, especially after his side missed a glut of chances in the first leg at Easter Road.

And he said: "That’s one of the things we spoke about in the changing room.

"First of all it’s to get back to this stage again and then second of all, when we get there – be better and win more games.

"There is a hunger in the group to get back there but we can only get there again by either finishing in a position in the league we did last year or by winning a cup.

"I didn’t want it to just be an experience, I said that before the first game. I wanted it to be something that we progressed in.

"It has definitely whetted the appetite to get here season after season and that’s what Hibs need to do.

"I think the more often you’re in that type of competition the greater the chance you have of progression. We’ve got different ways we can do that within our season."
