Jack Ross jokes Hibs hero Alex Gogic 'gets chased out' of shooting drills as he admits shock at Kilmarnock wonder strike

Jack Ross admits Alex Gogic's stunning strike for Hibs surprised him after seeing some of the Cyrpoit's efforts in training.

Gogic’s 20-yard thunderbolt after an Alan Power own goal had broken the deadlock against Kilmarnock and gives the capital side a much-needed lift ahead of next week’s Betfred Cup semi-final with St Johnstone.

It also lifts the Hibees above Aberdeen into third, just five points behind struggling Celtic.

The victory - a first in five games - follows Monday’s 1-1 draw with the Hoops and the delighted boss paid tribute to Gogic as he challenged his players to keep the momentum building for the trip to Hampden.

Ross said: “I would like to say that I’ve seen him do that in training regularly, but I don’t! He quite often gets chased out of the finishing drills when he tries to get involved!

“It’s a heck of a finish, to be fair, and I thought it capped an excellent performance.

“We knew, coming off the back of the disappointing week we had, the importance of the week that lay ahead. I said that to the players, and four points from six is a good return.

“It’s nice to have a clear week in preparation and we’ve had a taste of a semi-final this year. And it was a bitter taste of not winning it.

“The focus on winning silverware has been there since pre-season and there’s a real determination among the players to take that next step.”
