Jack Ross hails lucky Hibs cardigan that will be making a comeback for Scottish Cup final

Jack Ross thanked his lucky green cardigan after it did the trick for Hibs in their third attempt at reaching a cup final.

Goals in either half from Kevin Nisbet and Christian Doidge sent the Hibees through in the Scottish Cup at the expense of Dundee United, where they will face either St Johnstone or St Mirren.

After losing two previous semis in the last six months to Hearts and the Perth Saints, the pressure was on Hibs to deliver when it mattered.

They did that with a controlled display and thoroughly deserved to progress, although Ross admitted that had a little bit of superstitious sartorial help from his touchline get up.

And after almost not wearing it, the Easter Road boss now can't now wear it again for the final in a fortnight.

He explained: "I relented because I am under pressure all the time to wear Hibs branded gear in the dugout and I am never going to do that, so I bought this a couple of weeks ago and thought, 'it's green, that's a good starting point'.

“I actually wasn't going to wear it today then decided to, so I am pretty sure it's coming out on Cup final day. It has to stay now.”

Nisbet responded to John Collins’ midweek comments suggesting he has to do more off the ball with a goal and Man of the Match display, calling them “laughable” in his post-match interview.

And it's safe to say Ross agrees with his striker.

He said: “I know my players, I get to work with them every day. I know their strengths but I also know their weaknesses and the things they have to improve upon. I articulate that to them and I think they trust my opinion and judgement, that's the one that matters to them.

“He was good today Kevin but he's been good all season, so let's talk young players up sometimes as well."

Claims from Dundee United that Doidge should have been flagged offside at his goal were proved justifiable by replays, but Ross was just pleased the fine margins went his team’s way on this occasion.

He added: "It was a brilliant goal. It is tight. Bobby blows his whistle far too quickly when Chris is through on goal later on in the game, we could point to that should have been a goal.

“If those fine margins went for us today, then great because we had some fine margins go against us in previous games with the crossbar being hit etc, so we'll take it, you need it to win semis and finals.”
