Jack Ross gives Kevin Nisbet injury update as Hibs boss dispels home team 'myth'

Jack Ross is hopeful Kevin Nisbet will be fit for next week's second leg meeting with Rijeka, but the striker is a doubt for Sunday’s game against Ross County.

The Hibs striker went down with no-one near him towards the end of the Europa Conference League third qualifying round 1-1 draw with the Croatians at Easter Road.

The received treatment before trying to continue, but had to be subbed off soon after.

However, it’s not as serious as first feared and Ross expects to have last season’s top scorer available next Thursday.

“It’s just a dead leg, nothing more than that,” he explained.”The quick turnaround of games means we’ll just see how he reacts.

“He’ll be sore tomorrow morning but by the time Sunday comes around, hopefully he’ll be okay.”

Ross was delighted with what he got from his players, but was disappointed that they ddin’t get the outcome he felt they deserved.

However, there’s a real belief in the dressing room that they can go to Croatia and win as the Hibs boss talked up their recent away record.

“We’ve given ourselves a platform and we’ve got a really good chance of winning the tie,” he told Hibs TV. “Overall I thought the performance was really good.

“The belief the players showed and the trust in what we were doing, energy levels - all aspects of our play. We showed character to respond to the set back that was undeserved at the time.

“We spoke beforehand about how it was a big game against a good side and we needed to bring a performance. We did that tonight. The only thing missing was the deserved result,

“It was good to see opponents first hand. I said before the Santa Coloma game that we can watch footage but the players don’t really get a feel for it until they play against them.

“They played how we expected. The problems they caused us, we were prepared for but the problems we felt we could cause them, we did. That’s why we created through the game.

“Now the players have seen that first half, they’ll grow in that belief. We’ve just got to go and replicate that in a week’s time.

“It’s parked for now because we’ve got a massive league game on Sunday.

“But that is the final message to players and they were saying that before I did’ it’s all to play for. They now understand where they are against that team.

‘We played well and dominated the bulk of that game. It's a myth that it’s only because we're at home. We’ve got a brilliant away record as a team and we’ll look to go and show that in a week’s time.”
