Jack Ross 'frustrated' after Hibs draw with Celtic but praises squad for answering critics

Frustrated Hibernian manager Jack Ross admitted he was taking the positives from the 2-2 draw with Celtic, despite cursing the "avoidable" equaliser that saw his side blow a two-goal lead.

The Easter Road boss conceded he thought his side had "done enough to win the game" before Diego Laxalt's late strike rescued a point for the visitors when the home side failed to clear a free kick.

Jamie Murphy reacted brilliantly to finish when Kevin Nisbet saw his spot kick saved by Scott Bain, before the striker added his ninth league goal of the season just before the hour, but Odsonne Edouard's penalty 17 minutes from time hauled Neil Lennon's men back into it.

The hosts had managed to weather the storm for the first two of four added on minutes but gave away a "needless" foul that led to the equaliser.

However, Ross refused to be overly harsh on his players, who have now taken points from both Glasgow clubs at Easter Road this season.

He said: "I think we were deservedly ahead and felt as though we had done enough to win the game but it's difficult to see past the frustration.

"The equalising goal is avoidable for us, we shouldn't give away the foul and then I think we should make a better clearance than we do, but that's the fine margins I speak about a lot.

"Unfortunately we come out on the wrong side of it in terms of conceding but I'm proud of what we produced today."

The 4-1 thumping of Dundee in Betfred Cup action last week stopped the rot for Hibs off the back of dismal defeats to Hearts at Hampden and Aberdeen in the league at Pittodrie.

Ross stopped short of claiming the side had turned a corner in their quest to hunt down the Pittodrie side, but admitted he saw a much improved performance after publicly criticising his players following the 2-0 defeat in the Granite City.

"Probably for the first time this season, I questioned the players post-Aberdeen," he said.

"The semi-final I was frustrated because I felt we did enough to win the game, but Aberdeen I was disappointed with the level of performance, but they have answered those questions really well.

"We still have a lot of work to do but we are making progress."
