Jack Ross claims Hibs third place pursuit isn't for the money as he tells stars to seize Aberdeen moment

Hibs manager Jack Ross says he wants to clinch third place to create history - not generate profit.

The Hibees are on the verge of finishing in the 'best of the rest' slot behind Rangers and Celtic, a feat they haven't accomplished in 16 years.

Aberdeen are three points behind in fourth place and the sides meet on Wednesday night up at Pittodrie.

A win in their final Premiership away day of the campaign would seal third for the Easter Road side in Ross' first full season.

That achievement would come with a £2million prize, £200,000 more than the cash received by the team coming fourth, while winning the Scottish Cup on May 22 against St Johnstone comes with a whole host of other financial rewards.

That extra financial boost would be a welcome boon for a club hit hard by the Covid-19 crisis.

But Ross is more interested in sporting prestige than the state of Hibs' balance sheet.

He said: "While as a manager I acknowledge the benefits for the club from the revenue perspective, it's always been about the achievement side of things.

"We're looking to finish in a position in the league that the club hasn't done for 15 or so years.

"It's a position we want to consistently challenge to be in and achieve.

"Hopefully it's indicative of the steps forward this squad has made over the course of the season.

"But it's big for us. We want to confirm our position. We've had to fight and work hard to put ourselves in third place and now we're this close to it we don't want that opportunity to slip by."
