Jack Ross blasts Hibs penalty call and insists Ryan Porteous was fouled during Rangers defeat

Hibs boss Jack Ross insists his side should have had at least one penalty as he praised his side for their performance against Rangers.

Many felt the Easter Road side can feel hard done by after two incidents in the second half that were waved away by Willie Collum.

The first came when Ianis Hagi looked to clear a corner and appeared to catch Joe Newell in the head before Ryan Porteous went down under a challenge from James Tavernier.

And Ross insists Hibs can be proud of their performance but insisted he wouldn't be happy with losing the game.

He told Sky Sports: "We’re trying to grow a mentality at the club that we’re never satisfied losing games and I think that’s evident from our results this season.

"It’s a disappointed changing because they’re not used to that feeling but I feel it’s a day to accentuate the good things in my team’s performances cause I thought they were excellent. That’s as hard a game Rangers have had here in the league.

"We want to keep going and we want to make sure when we come here in the future we take something from the match.

"The way we set up today there was a risk reward element to it. We knew we would give up opportunities because we’re playing against a really good team who move the ball really well at times.

"But we kept two strikers up the park and high and I think we created good opportunities, we maybe didn’t work their goalkeeper enough but we had spells in the game where we were good.

"We should have had one penalty. The Ryan Porteous one, I didn’t have a great view of it at the time but I’ve had the benefit of watching it before I came out but I don’t think there’s any doubt it’s a penalty kick.

"There’s plenty for us to be pleased about, the players willingness to play the way they’re asked to. The confidence and belief but ultimately we’ve lost the game so we’re not pleased with that but we’re proud of the performance. If we can take it forward into our remaining matches we’ll be in a good position."
