Jack Ross and Shaun Maloney the last two men standing in Dundee next manager hunt

Relegated Dundee are closing in on their new boss – and Shaun Maloney and Jack Ross are the remaining two options.

The Scottish Championship outfit has whittled down their shortlist from five to just two candidates.

And one of the former Hibs managers Ross or Maloney is now likely to be the next Dundee gaffer.

Dundee have been on the lookout for a new manager since Mark McGhee stepped down following their Premiership relegation.

Technical director Gordon Strachan and managing director John Nelms have been leading the interview process.

Ross has been out of work since December and has turned down several offers to return since.

It would be a major gamble for the former Sunderland and St Mirren boss to drop down to the Championship but be a huge coup for Dundee.

Maloney left Hibs in April after a short spell at Easter Road.

He is a highly-respect coach and was an assistant to Roberto Martinez at Belgium before he moved to Easter Road.

He is also close to Strachan as he played under him at Celtic and Scotland.

It remains to see if Dundee can agree terms to put their new man in place this week.
