Jack Rodwell released by Sheffield United after two games in 18 months

Jack Rodwell, the former Manchester City and England star, has been released by Sheffield United following a disaster spell at the club.

The 30-year-old played just TWO games in 18 months at Bramall Lane. His outings saw him on the field for a combined 73 minutes.

Now, following their relegation from the Premier League, he is one of four players leaving the club. Rodwell was once seen as the next big thing in English football, representing Everton and Manchester City. But his career has been ravaged by injury concerns.

He was famously cast as the pantomime villain in the Netflix documentary 'Sunderland 'Til I Die', which showed him refusing to agree to the cancellation of his contract worth a reported £70,000 per week.

Rodwell spent four seasons on Wearside following a £12million transfer from City in 2014, but he is regarded as one of the worst signings in the club's history.

It was hoped his arrival at Bramall Lane could kick-start his career but former Blades' boss Chris Wilder was unable to get Rodwell fit enough.

Also leaving the recently-relegated club, who confirmed Slavisa Jokanovic as Wilder's replacement last week, is long-serving goalkeeper Simon Moore as well as veteran defender Phil Jagielka.

Midfielder John Lundstram is also heading for the exit door, as anticipated following failure to agree new terms with the Blades.
