Jack Robinson hopes Matty Cash's new Nottingham Forest deal sends strong message

Jack Robinson knows as well as anyone how hard it is to play full-back even if you are a specialist in the position.

With that in mind, he can fully appreciate the challenges of playing there when it is not your natural role - and because of that he has been nothing but impressed by Matty Cash this season.

Cash moved to his new position this summer having previously been a winger and such has been his form, he this week signed a new three-and-a-half year deal at Nottingham Forest.

"He's one of my best mates in the team so I'm really happy for him," the former Liverpool left-back said.

"I'm made up he's signed a new deal. It's really good for him.

"He's been brilliant. He's worked hard at his game.

"This hasn't just fallen for him, he's worked hard in training. The manager spoke to him a fair few times to improve in that position.

"He's done really well and he's improving week in, week out."

"Any advice I can give him I will, but at the minute he doesn't need it.

"I give him a bit of stick! He takes it well. He's been really good."

Robinson believes Cash's new deal is a sign of Forest's progress under Sabri Lamouchi, especially considering the 22-year-old had been linked with a January move to Everton.

"It shows where the club is at and where it wants to be. The owners and Ioannis (chief executive Ioannis Vrentzos) , they wanted to tie Matty down so it's great for the club he's signed that new deal and he's here for the next four years. "It's a great acquisition for the club."

Robinson is set to retain his place in the side to face Cardiff today given Yuri Ribeiro's knee injury.

He will get a far better reception than he received at former club QPR on Wednesday from home fans, but there will be no easy time for him when the whistle blows at the City Ground.

"I got a bit of stick but I was used to it from last year. I got a bit of stick then too," he said.

"I knew I'd get a bit. As a team and individually we dealt with it as well as we could and got the result we deserved.

"It's always a tough game against Cardiff. They're a good team with good shape.

"They're solid but if we play as we have the last five or six weeks we can get a result. Especially with it being at home, we're more than solid at home."
