Jack Nicklaus confirms he and wife had COVID-19

If you were around this weekend and looking for some live sports to watch, there was PGA golf being played in central Ohio with the annual Memorial Tournament.

The Memorial is usually played around Memorial Day (makes sense), but was pushed back to July because of the COVID-19 pandemic. I have to say the final round wasn’t all that gripping, but if you paid attention, there was some news dropped by tournament founder and Ohio State alum Jack Nicklaus.

During a pause in the action, Nicklaus confirmed to Jim Nantz that he and his wife Barbara had both tested positive for the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19 earlier this spring. He said he had a cough and a sore throat after four positive tests while his wife Barbara, who was asymptomatic, tested positive three times.

The couple tested positive on March 13 and stayed in their south Florida home until April 20. As of Sunday, they had both taken antibody tests that show they are protected from the virus. Nicklaus has not previously discussed any battle with COVID-19 until the broadcast on Sunday.

Both Jack and Barbara celebrated their 80th birthdays a month apart from each other in January and February of this year.

It’s just another example of how this virus has infiltrated society in the United States at this point.
