A body has been found by officers searching for a missing West Ham fan who has not been seen since before Christmas.

Police confirmed a body was found in the fishing lake in Gloucester Park, Basildon, after the lake was drained during the search for Jack Morrad.

The discovery happened at 11.30am on January 3, 12 days after the 28-year-old went missing, officers said.

Police said the body is yet to be identified but Mr Morrad’s family have been informed that the search has been suspended.

Mr Morrad, from Essex, vanished at about 2am on December 23 after a night out with friends following a West Ham football match.

Earlier this week, officers made the decision to drain a lake in search of him, a choice that was “not taken lightly”, according to police.

Officers believe the 28-year-old was heading towards the park when trying to piece together his last moments.

In a statement, Essex Police said: “Officers searching the fishing lake in Gloucester Park, Basildon, as part of the investigation to find Jack Morrad have suspended their search following the discovery of a man’s body.

“The discovery was made shortly before 11.30am today, January 3.

“Formal identification will take place in due course.”
