Jack McCaffrey and Brendan Maher among stars to be honoured at GWA annual awards

All-Ireland winning stars Jack McCaffrey and Brendan Maher will headline a star studded evening at the annual Gaelic Writers Association awards tonight.

The awards, sponsored by Sky Sports, will see Dublin's five-in-a-row winner McCaffrey take home the Gaelic Football Personality of the Year accolade.

Tipperary's towering half-back Brendan Maher will also take home the Hurling Personality of the Year award.

Wexford legend Liam Griffin will be joined by Armagh great Joe Kernan as this year's two inductees to the GWA's Hall of Fame.

Griffin guided Wexford to the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 1996, while Kernan brought the Sam Maguire back to Armagh for the first and only time - and also won three All-Ireland titles as Crossmaglen boss.

Also honoured at Dublin’s Iveagh Garden Hotel tonight will be journalist Martin Brehany - who will receive the GWA Lifetime Achievement Award.

The PRO of the Year accolade will be going west, with Leitrim’s Declan Bohan the recipient.
